ARTIST STATEMENT & BIO
Margaret Lyons is a Sydney-based artist who works predominantly with oil paint. Her work largely includes evocative portraits inspired by family history and simple domestic still life paintings. Margaret's figurative paintings explore the captivating quality of analog film photography in creating drama from an ordinary moment. She is drawn to her family's great collection of photo albums, captured by the beauty in composition, colour and expression, as well as the careful record of every birthday and holiday. Working with these subjects, she pays tribute to the reverence previously given to images, whilst indulging her excitement for engaging with personal history. Margaret's painting style employs bold colour and contrast alongside subtle gestural brush work.

Margaret completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Adelaide Central School of Art and has studied short courses at Barcelona Academy of Art, Glasgow Academy of Fine Art and Dutch Atelier of Realist Art.
